Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a mix of striking and grappling arts, ideal for self defence and increased fitness.
Mixed Martial Arts training incorporates a mix of stand up fighting styles (e.g. karate, kickboxing) along with ground fighting techniques (e.g. gracie jiu jitsu, brazilian jiu jitsu, submission wrestling). Mixed Martial Arts,MMA, training can be done for a variety of purposes. Many participants choose to eventually compete in full or semi contact mixed martial arts fights whilst many others train for non-competition goals such as weight loss or learning self defence. At Combat Athlete we cater for all of these goals and more in a friendly and well equipped gym environment.

What to expect at our MMA classes:
We run a hard MMA training class that pushes your stamina levels and is not for the faint hearted. We drill a lot of punching and kicking combinations together with takedowns and ground fighting submission as well as sparring.
What to wear:
To train MMA with us, we recommend you wear shorts and a t-shirt or rash guard to start with then after a while you will also need a mouth guard, groin guard, mma gloves (or boxing gloves) and shin pads but you can borrow a pair of the club’s training gloves for your first few lessons while you decide if training MMA with us is for you. Please also bring a drink (e.g. water or a sports nutrition drink).
